Over the last few months, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes on various aspects of the game. We’re expecting most of the work to be complete before Christmas. This post is a high level run through of what we are focussing on right now.
New User Experience
Throughout the beta, we’ve tried a lot of different approaches with our tutorial and new user experience in general. As the game mechanics are quite unique, we need to give users a solid foundation to start from. However, most people don’t like reading stuff on screen and they don’t learn things if there is too much handholding. So we’ve tried to find the balance between an informative set of tutorial steps that are also challenging and an enjoyable part of the game. Rather than feeling like something you are being forced to do and try to rush past to get onto the good stuff. We worked with a UX expert during the summer to find the right balance for our game.
As we added more features to the game over the years, it started to get a bit messy. The function of the home page is also changing (linked to the game navigation below). As we move into being a “live” game there are events and tournaments which we want to bring attention to. Unless you’re in our discord, it’s hard to keep up with what’s happening in the game. So we want to change that and make information much more accessible. Here’s an artist mock-up of the new look home screen. Some things have changed but it should give you a good idea of what we’re aiming for.
With a game that has as much depth as Super Club Soccer, navigating around it needs to be efficient. Some things were really important when we launched the game but became less relevant over time. So we’ve added a navigation bar to make it as clear as possible. The notification system has also been moved and simplified. Getting into tournament game lobbies will be quicker and easier, as we look to get more people involved in the competitive side of the game.
In parallel to these UI changes, we are making some tweaks to the AI. We’re introducing different levels of difficulty. Bots will also have more unique behaviour, based on their attributes. Playing with or against our AI will be more exciting for new and experienced users.
Recently we’ve worked with Doop and WorkTheSpace to promote the game with Football Manager fans. We got really positive responses from their communities and some very useful feedback. After these improvements are live we’ll be looking to work with more content creators. If you’d like to work with us in the new year please get in touch!
